Meeker wins state title

Following your dreams can lead to big rewards.  Just ask St. Joseph-Ogden’s Griffin Meeker, who is living proof of that statement.

Spartans head to State Farm Center

With the IHSA State Wrestling tournament beginning this weekend, the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans will be well represented once preliminary action begins on Thursday.

Kibler and Meeker head back to state

The biggest stage in high school wrestling awaits two St. Joseph-Ogden
athletes this week.

And two who are already well-versed in what will transpire during the
Class 1A state meet at State Farm Center that begins Thursday and runs
through Saturday night.

Wesley Kibler is making his fourth state appearance, and the SJO senior

Featuring a returning state champion, the St. Joseph-Ogden wrestling team is gearing up for the most rewarding, yet difficult, part of the season.

PBL rejects Okaw Invite

PAXTON — The Paxton-Buckley-Loda school board narrowly rejected an
invitation for PBL High School’s athletic programs to join the Okaw Valley

The 4-3 vote came a little over a year after the board voted 5-2 to turn

Pinning wins to their record

Name a small-school wrestling team throughout the state, and St. Joseph-Ogden has probably wrestled them.

A flurry of meets in the past two weeks following a superb showing at the Unity Invitational on Dec. 20 puts the Spartans in a solid position with the start of the Class 1A postseason a little more than three weeks away.

Bittersweet ending

If one would have looked at the beginning of last week and had to pick one St. Joseph-Ogden wrestler to win a state medal, Wesley Kibler’s name probably wasn’t the first to come to mind.

That’s not a knock against Kibler, a sophomore at 195 pounds.

Rather senior Austin Hedrick, a three-time state qualifier who had placed fourth in 2013 at 152, seemed a solid choice.

Eight set a date for sectionals

The entire St. Joseph-Ogden wrestling team won't get a chance to wrestle again this season.

But the Spartans will send a hearty contingent to the Class 1A Stanford Olympia Sectional meet this weekend.

Spartans win Eastern Illinois tournament

The Eastern Illinois Tournament features a mixture of solid wrestling programs scattered throughout east central Illinois, eastern Illinois and southern Illinois.

Only one claim it is the best at the annual season-ending tournament.

St. Joseph-Ogden fits that label this year.
