Bus Barn project to be rebid

The Bus Barn project at St. Joseph-Ogden High School has slowed down.

The bid opening in November produced higher than expected bids, said Superintendent Jim Acklin.
The low bidder was able to identify $90,000 in potential savings by "value" engineering the project. However, the budget was still over budget by $100,000.

"At this point it makes most sense to rebid the project in such a way as to get the pole barn manufactures directly involved," Acklin said. "I recommend that the BOE rejects all bids received and authorized the project be rebid with an adjusted project schedule."
The Board of Education voted to reject the bids.

Board President Les Hoveln said he thought starting over was the correct way to proceed.

"We have a lot of moving parts to this project,"  Hoveln said. "We need to make sure we are on the same page with the architects."
Acklin said the architects on the project now know that they need to go into the project with a completely different mindset and design a more cost efficient building.
