Grade school maintains class sizes

Class sizes at St. Joseph Grade School are mainly smaller than they were last year.
Superintendent Todd Pence told the school board that there are 860 students attending District #169 this year.
Last year there were 890.
There are 87 students in kindergarten with five class sections for an average class size of 17.4. There are 90 students in first grade with five class sections for an average class size of 18.
Second grade has 100 students in five sections for an average class size of 20.
Third grade has 87 students in five sections for an average class size of 17.4
Fourth grade has 96 students in five sections for an average class size of 19.2. Fifth grade has 106 students in five sections for an average class size of 21.2. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade all have four sections. Sixth grade has 100 students with an average class size of 25.
Seventh grade has 99 students with an average class size of 24.8 and eighth grade has 95 students with an average class size of 23.8.
Pence said the class sizes are right around where the district wants to stay.
Last year kindergarten had 18.6 students per class, first grade had 20 students per class, second grade had 18.4 students per class, third grade had 19.8 students per class, fourth grade had 21.6 students per class and fifth grade had 20.2 students per class.
Sixth grade had 24.5 students per class, seventh grade had 24.8 students per class and eighth grade had 25 students per class.
