Supply drive taking place

Residents looking to help St. Joseph children and teachers have ample opportunity to donate school supplies this month.

Katie May is running a school supply drive in St. Joseph.

May saw a post online asking if there was any way to donate school supplies.

“I thought it was a wonderful idea and just ran with it,” she said.

May, who works as a nurse at St. Joseph Grade School and Middle School asked the teachers at both schools what they would like people to donate. Items requested include: highlighters,#2 pencils, washable markers, pencil bags, glue sticks, 24 packs of crayons, whiteboard markers, colored pencils, two pocket folders, erasers, rulers, 4 oz. containers of washable Elmer’s Glue, red, black and blue pens, black sharpies, spiral notebooks, loose leaf paper, washable watercolor pants and disinfecting wipes.

“The response has been great so far but supplies are still needed,” May said.

Those interested in donating can donate at Busey Bank, Gifford State Bank, the Wheelhouse, Wagner Signs and Graphics, The Play Day Cafe, the St. Joseph library and Longview Bank. Monetary donations can be mailed to 308 Castle Lane in St. Joseph.  There will also be a box available for donations at District #169 registration on Aug. 3 as well as in the Wagner Signs and Graphics booth at the community festival on Aug. 10-12.
