No students hurt in bus accident

A school bus from St. Joseph CCSD #169 was rear-ended on Rt. 150 on Wednesday afternoon.

Superintendent Todd Pence said the bus only had eight students on it when it was hit from behind by a Volkswagen Beetle.

“The majority of the students had already been dropped off,” Pence said.

The bus was stopped on Rt. 150 near Mayview to let some of the students off when it was hit from behind, Pence said.

Pence said students on the bus said they barely felt the impact and said the accident sounded like someone had just dropped a book in the back of the bus.

The car suffered far more damage, Pence said.

Pence said be believed the driver of the car wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realize the bus had stopped.

“Luckily, no students were injured,” Pence said.

Pence said parents of the on the bus students were contacted. Some parents opted to pick up their children. Pence said he took one student home and others were placed on another bus and taken home.
