Park to be dedicated in June

The new St. Joseph Community Sports Complex Woodard Family Park will have a new sign Mayor B.J. Hackler announced.

The sign, made by Boulder Designs in Rantoul, is a Landscape Boulder. It will read "Community Sports Complex Woodard Family Park." The boulder will be 12 feet feet wide and seven feet high. Hackler said the sign is being funded by the Woodard family.

The sign was installed on April 21 and will be dedicated on June 17 at 2 p.m.

Ralph and Beatrice Woodard donated 18.5 acres of land to the village. The village purchased another 18.5 acres from the family at a cost of $166,500. The land sits east of the  St. Joseph Sports Complex located along Rt. 150.

The Woodards participated in a land swap with the Ehman family.  The Ehmans approached the village about farming the land until it is developed. The board voted to allow the Ehman's to cash crop the land until it was needed for the park complex.

“For our community to have a 75 acre sports complex is pretty neat,” said Hackler.
