Changes are coming to St. Joseph Country Christmas.
The event will no longer feature vendors and will instead focus on children's activities.
At its October meeting, the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce discussed not holding the event.
The Country Christmas committee made up of the Leader, Lynda Wolfe and Lenell Weiler reported they were having a difficult time finding a space to hold the event because many local churches and schools had events in early December.
Mayor B.J. Hackler suggested asking the American Legion to host the event due to the Legion’s proximity to downtown.
The Legion agreed to hold the event.
The committee also told the board that there seemed to be a lack of interest from vendors to participate in the event.
Instead of hosting vendors at the event, the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce is asking businesses downtown to host open houses, give discounts or serve cookies and warm drinks instead of having vendor space at the event.
The event will take place Dec. 8, 9 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Hall in St. Joseph.
Santa will arrive by fire truck at 9 a.m.
Children and their parents are invited to meet Santa and take their photo with him. Children will receive a candy cane after they visit with Santa.
A local girl scout troop will also be sponsoring children's activities and children can color a picture to be run in the Leader.
