The village of Broadlands will be repairing sidewalks.
During the September board meeting the village discussed three bids for the project.
The bids were: ICF Midwest Builders in Homer at $27,000 for phase one of the project which was 4,000 square feet, Duce Construction bid $23,790 for phase one of the project. They bid $25, 937.20 for phase two and Jim Richardson bid $8,567.60 for phase one of the project. Richardson's bid was for labor only if Village pays for concrete because the village is tax exempt. If the village will not purchase the concrete, Richardson bid $12,404.12. Richardson asked for half the money up front, half at completion of the job. For phase two he bid $8.940.20 if village pays for concrete. If not, the bid was $13,060.20.
The board discussed the presented bids.
The board voted to accept Richardson's bid.
Also at the meeting, Ron Gast reported the water usage is down and work will begin on the water tower shortly.
Trustee Patrick Reynolds questioned why no siren was sent off during the severe storm in August. Trustee Allen Hall said he would follow up with the fire chief and ESDA coordinator on this issue.
Hall pointed out that most of the board has not had a raise in many years.
After discussion, Trustee Russell Jones made a motion to increase the salaries of all village trustees, mayor, village clerk and village treasurer by $50 effective with the next election in April 2013.
Only those newly elected trustees will receive this raise at this time. The motion carried 6-0.
He also reported a resident without a sticker on his vehicle.
The board said they would follow up with this resident.
Thirdly, Luedke stated he is concerned about the large number of properties in town that are in decline.
The board discussed this issue and encouraged Luedke to work with fellow residents to buy properties to fix up and resale.
Also at the meeting, Village Clerk Krista Jones reported she has forms for those interested in running for mayor, or village trustee for the April municipal election. Forms must be filed between December 17-24. Anyone interested in running for either of these offices is encouraged to contact Jones.
In other news, Buffington reported he has heard from residents regarding the dumping of non-approved refuse at the burn pile at the edge of the Village. The board will look into options for a more secure gate for this area.
