Village addresses sewer concerns

The Village of Ogden is working to correct a sewer problem along Rt. 150.

During the January board meeting the board heard from Don Wauthier of Berns and Clancy Engineering.

Wauthier said that when a large property was subdivided many years ago, the water and sewer was not separated.
It was discussed during the meeting that the sewer line was not corrected when the property was subdivided.  Currently, the water line runs under a neighbors existing garage.

Wauthier said current water service comes under the highway and splits four ways.  The water service lines crossed other people’s property because at that time the property was owned by one individual.  The current set up does not meet current EPA requirements.  There is a private line serving three properties.  Splitting the properties created the violation, Wauthier said.
Trustee Todd Newsom said that he thinks the village responsibility ends at the meter.  Newsom said he believes each service line is for the property owner to fix.

The possible cost could be up to $40,000.

Formal bids must be submitted by state law.

There was a proposal to only fix the water line.

The next step would be for engineers to do a survey.  A motion was made by Trustee Sue Esposito to do the project in three phases.  The motion carried.

Also at the meeting, Mayor Jack Reidner told the board about the possibility that Mahomet may have a generator for the village to buy.  Wauthier said Mahomet is doing improvement to their waste water plant.  The generators have been declared surplus.    The generator will sell for $6,000 or $7,000.

It was agreed that the village wants to move ahead with the purchase.

Also at the meeting, the village discussed purchasing a lift truck.

Trustee Dan Bruce made a presentation about the condition of the truck. It is a 1994 model year and in good working condition.
There was some interest expressed.    There was some concern about the possible cost of maintenance and the asking price.  Esposito made a motion to offer $5200 with a donation to the village of $700.  The village would pay municipal plate and transfer fee.  The motion passed 4-2.
