The St. Joseph-Ogden soccer team started this week trying to begin a new winning streak.
Prior to Monday’s home match with Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, the Spartans lost all three matches last week, all against Illini Prairie Conference foes.
The three straight setbacks came after SJO won three consecutive matches to place third at the Cornjerker Classic on Sept. 9 in Hoopeston.
SJO lost 2-1 last Saturday at home to Chillicothe Illinois Valley Central, which was preceded by a 7-0 loss at St. Thomas More last Thursday and a 2-1 home loss to Monticello on Sept. 12.
SJO (7-7) returned to league action on Tuesday at Rantoul — results were unavailable at press time — before hosting Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Westville at 9 a.m. this Saturday. The Spartans are then slated to hit the road for a 4:30 p.m. match next Monday at Judah Christian before hosting Unity at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
The Spartans are slated to find out their Class 1A posteason pairings this Friday. SJO is placed in a 10-team sub-sectional that features ALAH, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, Hoopeston Area, Judah Christian, Oakwood/Salt Fork, St. Thomas More, Schlarman, Unity and Uni High. Hoopeston Area and STM are slated to host regionals, with the respective regional winners advancing to the Uni High Sectional, which will take place at the UI Turf Fields across the street from Memorial Stadium in Champaign.
Postseason play is slated to begin on Oct. 6, but exact dates and times for when SJO will play will be released on Friday.
