Spartans dominate Illini Prairie

The St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ volleyball team bounced back in a nice way from their loss to St. Thomas More one week ago, by winning three consecutive matches over some powerhouse teams in Class 2A and 3A this past week.
Last Monday evening, the Spartans traveled to Maroa-Forsyth to take on a Trojan team that used to be in the Okaw Valley Conference with SJO.  
The Spartans came out on top with a 25-18, 27-25 victory.  Leading the way for SJO in the statistical categories were Abbi Burnett, who had 11 kills to go along with 5 digs.  Bree Trimble had 7 digs, while Emily Bigger contributed with one kill, 9 assists and 3 digs.  
Also producing a solid stat line was Rylee Walsh, who had 2 kills, 13 assists and 1 dig.  Finally, in the match win over Maroa-Forsyth, Katelyn Berry had 5 kills and a dig for the Spartans.  
On last Tuesday evening, SJO made the short trip to Rantoul to face Illini Prairie Conference foe Rantoul, and once again came out on top, winning by scores of 25-20 and 25-13.  Abbi Burnett once again had a solid production for the Spartans, getting 5 kills and recording 9 digs.  Bree Trimble had 3 kills and 5 digs, while Emily Bigger also had a nice match as well, getting 9 assists and 4 digs.  
Libero Eve Owens had one serving ace, while getting 6 digs, and Katelyn Berry also had 5 kills and one dig.  Jenna Albrecht had 2 kills, while Lacey Kaiser, Rylee Walsh, Sarah Acklin and Sydney Kelso each had 2 digs.  Walsh and Acklin had 2 kills apiece as well for the Spartans.  
Another Illini Prairie Conference match was played on Thursday night, as Bloomington Central Catholic came to St. Joseph to battle the Spartans, and SJO came out on top in this one as well, winning by scores of 25-20 and 25-22.  Abbi Burnett led the way for the Spartans with 6 kills and 4 digs, while Bree
Trimble had 2 kills, 2 assists and 6 digs.  Emily Bigger once again came up huge, notching 3 kills, 7 assists and 6 digs.  
Emily Erickson had once service ace, 4 kills and 2 assists, while Eve Owens had 3 aces and 4 digs.  Katelyn Berry contributed once again with 7 kills and 4 digs, and Rylee Walsh had another strong match, with one kill, 13 assists and 10 digs.  
SJO improves their record to 12-3 with the perfect week, and will have another very busy week upcoming, with four matches.  
On Monday, SJO traveled to Downs to face Tri-Valley, and then faced three consecutive Illini Prairie Conference foes in succession.  Unity was be first up on Tuesday in Tolono, and then a pair of home matches with Pontiac on Thursday and Chillicothe IVC on Saturday afternoon.  The weeknight varsity matches begin at 7 p.m. following the JV and freshmen matches, and the varsity match against IVC on Saturday will begin at noon, following the JV and freshmen matches.
